Uncle Lester Coyne

For over 64 years, I have been heavily involved in the Albany community, as a businessowner, sportsman, musician, the Great Southern Manager of Aboriginal Employment Education Training and in other roles focusing on placing Aboriginal people in mainstream employment, in Aboriginal health services, and as a member and Chair on many boards.

I am a member of the Wagyl Kaip Southern Noongar Aboriginal Corporation Albany 2026 Sub-Cultural Committee, providing cultural advice and oversight for the Albany 2026 program, and am also involved in several of the Major Events and Community projects planned for 2026. I am an active social advocate for my people and of Albany, assisting in many local government functions, and mentored numerous agencies seeking my intervention or as a person interested in improved relationships between the wider population and First Nations people.

I remain fully committed to my town of Kinjarling, Albany, meaning “place of plenty”. A place of peace, tranquility and a great place to raise a family as I have done. For me, 2026 is a catalyst for honest and healing conversations about our shared past and work towards a harmonious and respectfully inclusive future. It will be a time of reflection and education, but also one of hope and opportunity to showcase our incredible city, landscape, people and culture on a national stage.
