Get Involved

Interact and get involved with Albany 2026.

Community

From shaping the Bicentenary Strategic Plan (see download link below) to helping bring events to life, Albany 2026 is for the community, by the community.

This is your chance to be part of something historic. Throughout 2025 and 2026, there will be opportunities—big and small—to get involved, including workshops, information sessions, survey pulse checks and more. Upcoming opportunities will be listed on this page, so check back regularly to stay informed.

Kaarla Wirren Workshop

Young people aged 12–25 are invited to join Kaarla Wirren (Fire Spirit), a project by Southern Edge Arts that explores the resilience of people in the face of historic change and celebrates fire as a symbol of a strong spirit, family and a sense of home.

The project offers In-school workshops AND out of school workshops during Term 1 and 2 of 2026, culminating in a performance on Saturday 16 May 2026 in the Amphitheatre at Albany’s Historic Whaling Station as part of the City of Albany’s Albany 2026 program.

EOI Call-Out for Lantern Making Workshops

Southern Edge Arts invites local community groups, businesses, schools, sporting clubs and service organisations to register their interest in hosting free lantern making workshops with their team of artists.

During these workshops you and your members will learn more about Carry the Fire and create your own lantern to carry on the day.

It is a great way to engage your members or customers in a highly engaging experience that opens up conversations about our hopes for the future.

What is Kinjarling / Albany to you?

A community-centred collaborative project, ‘Albany Is’ invites listeners to explore the rich cultural and natural landscape of Kinjarling / Albany through a collection of audio recordings. Drawing on local voices, natural soundscapes and archival material, the work will offer a rich and evolving reflection on our identity.

What is your craft story?

Albany filmmaker & visual designer, Josephine Jay (Gneiss Design) is creating a filmic portrait of Albany, its uniqueness and the ways that creativity flourishes within its folds.

Demonstrating links between our environment and creative practice, the documentary celebrates Albany’s astonishing craftspeople.

‘In The Making’ will be launched at Albany Town Hall in the latter half of 2026, together with an exhibition of local crafts, and a concert featuring locally made instruments.

Do you or a friend have a story or a craft that you’d like to share or talk about? Josephine would love to hear from you.
