Community

From shaping the Bicentenary Strategic Plan (see download link below) to helping bring events to life, Albany 2026 is for the community, by the community.

This is your chance to be part of something historic. Throughout 2026, there will be opportunities—big and small—to get involved, including workshops, information sessions, survey pulse checks and more. Upcoming opportunities will be listed on this page, so check back regularly to stay informed.

Volunteers wanted for Sculpture at Binalup

Sculpture at Binalup are inviting friendly, community-minded people to join them on Country from 10–19 April to help bring the exhibition to life. As a volunteer, you will spend a relaxed 1–2 hour shift at beautiful Binalup/Middleton Beach welcoming visitors, sharing the digital catalogue, collecting feedback, and connecting with artists and art lovers.

Shifts are available daily between 8am–5pm.

Bring a friend, enjoy the coastline, and help create a warm and welcoming space for all.

Kaarla Wirren Workshop

Young people aged 12–25 are invited to join Kaarla Wirren (Fire Spirit), a project by Southern Edge Arts that explores the resilience of people in the face of historic change and celebrates fire as a symbol of a strong spirit, family and a sense of home.

The project offers In-school workshops AND out of school workshops during Term 1 and 2 of 2026, culminating in a performance on Saturday 16 May 2026 in the Amphitheatre at Albany’s Historic Whaling Station as part of the City of Albany’s Albany 2026 program.

EOI Call-Out for Lantern Making Workshops

Southern Edge Arts invites local community groups, businesses, schools, sporting clubs and service organisations to register their interest in hosting free lantern making workshops with their team of artists.

During these workshops you and your members will learn more about Carry the Fire and create your own lantern to carry on the day.

It is a great way to engage your members or customers in a highly engaging experience that opens up conversations about our hopes for the future.
