Reflect, Respect and Reactivate
Reflect, Respect and Reactivate is an exciting program of events for Albany 2026 at Albany’s Historic Whaling Station. Included in the year-long program will be cultural performances and workshops, artists in residence, and film screenings. The events align with three broad themes: Connecting with our past, celebrating the present, and embracing the future. Reflect-Connecting with our past, reflects authentically on Albany’s history. Using storytelling and contemporary Noongar performance we bring indigenous stories to life. Our artist in residence will make visible the stories of women in whaling, engaging with the community’s shared history, and we feature celebrated local film makers showcasing new narratives of Albany.
Respect-Celebrating the present, honours current achievements. Our program celebrates Albany's creative community, bringing attention to local achievements, and fostering a sense of community pride. Our artist in residence engages in a site directed response culminating in large scale installation works. A cultural performance brings local choreographers, performers, and musicians together to present an intimate production inspired by the restorative nature of the sea.
Reactivate-Embracing the future, creates a vision for future generations, focusing on community engagement, heritage and culture. We celebrate the whaling station’s unique maritime archaeology revealing a new discovery. Using 3D augmented project mapping and original custom content designed for the site we present a visual feast.
