About the Event

A powerful evening of remembrance, reflection and community as A Tree We Grew pays tribute to the men and women who have served Albany and Australia.

Combining film, music, dance and personal stories, this moving production honours the resilience, sacrifice and enduring spirit of our veterans. The evening includes a short tribute film celebrating Albany veterans, an interactive Meet the Veterans session, and a captivating program featuring acclaimed former WA Ballet principal dancers, artists from leading international companies, Albany favourites Adam Cook and ensemble, a piano recital, and original dance works choreographed by Sym Parr and Akelina Lembo and performed by Albany Academy of Dance.

At the heart of the event is the critically acclaimed original ballet A Tree We Grew. Set during World War II, this poignant love story culminates in a stirring reunion as returning soldiers embrace their loved ones, forming the shape of a tree, a symbol of resilience, love and life. Praised by audiences as “utterly beautiful, deeply moving and meaningful”, the work has earned standing ovations and sold-out performances.
