About the Event
Presented at Albany’s Historic Whaling Station, Cats & Dogs: All at Sea explored the little-known lives of animals aboard seafaring vessels. The exhibition featured early twentieth-century photographs by Samuel Hood showing sailors with the cats, dogs and other animals that accompanied them at sea. While some served practical roles aboard ship, these animals also provided comfort and companionship during long and often isolating voyages. Originally developed by the Australian National Maritime Museum and reinterpreted for Albany, the exhibition revealed a tender and deeply personal side of maritime history.
