About the Event

Shipwright Darren Russell will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the maintenance and preservation of Albany's iconic Amity replica.

As one of Western Australia's remaining specialist wooden boat builders, Darren has dedicated his career to preserving traditional maritime skills. Through his work at Emu Point Shipwrights, he maintains the Amity replica and other historic vessels throughout the region.

This talk will explore the challenges of caring for a full-scale wooden ship replica, while also highlighting Albany's long connection to wooden boatbuilding and maritime craftsmanship.

This talk forms part of the exhibition Early Boatbuilding Around Albany and 50 Years of the Amity Replica, which explores Albany's maritime heritage and commemorates the 50th anniversary of the construction of the Amity replica.
