Now, learn the First Nations story of Strawberry Hill at Barmup—a site of immense cultural significance, disrupted by British colonisation.
You’re invited to experience Mapping Menang, an exhibition that will immerse you in stories of family, Country and connection, shared by Menang Elders and community members. This exhibition is the culmination of two years of community engagement, sharing of intergenerational knowledge, archival research and art-making.
At the heart of this exhibition is a large-scale cultural map of Menang Country. Created by Elders and community members over many months, the map features iconography representing Menang locations and the stories embedded in each place.
The backdrop for the Mapping Menang exhibition will be a transformed Strawberry Hill at Barmup—enhanced by major works funded by the State Government. Site infrastructure has been vastly improved, conservation of historic 1830s buildings completed, and new landscaping introduced to reflect and honour the enduring presence of the Menang people on this land for thousands of years.
