About the Event
The National Reconciliation Week Breakfast brought the Albany community together for a morning of truth-telling, reflection and connection as Western Australia entered its 2026–2029 bicentennial period, and was followed by the launch of the Great Southern Place-based RAP – the first Place-based Reconciliation Action Plan of its kind in Australia.
Hosted by Reconciliation WA and shaped through partnerships with Minang / Goreng Traditional Elders, the City of Albany and community stakeholders, the event centred First Nations leadership, cultural authority and local voices.
Guests gathered over breakfast before joining the live statewide broadcast from Boorloo / Perth, which featured First Nations leaders, cultural performances and stories shared with audiences across Western Australia and nationally through NITV and SBS On Demand.
The breakfast was followed by the launch of the Great Southern Place-Based RAP, a significant milestone, as this is the first Place-based Reconciliation Action Plan of its kind in Australia.
The day featured a Smoking Ceremony and a community artwork project from Palmerston.
