About the Event

Join author and former diplomat Ian Forsyth as he uncovers the extraordinary maritime history of the Forsyth family and their connections to Albany.

After a distinguished international career representing Australia overseas, Ian turned his attention to researching his family's history. What he discovered was a remarkable story spanning generations of harbour masters, shipbuilders, engineers, mariners and community leaders who helped shape maritime life in Western Australia.

The presentation will include stories of William "Chippie" Forsyth, who worked in Albany's boatbuilding industry during the early twentieth century, constructing and maintaining vessels on the Albany waterfront.

Drawing on years of research, Ian will share how one family's story provides a unique window into Albany's maritime past.

This talk forms part of the exhibition Early Boatbuilding Around Albany and 50 Years of the Amity Replica, which explores Albany's maritime heritage and commemorates the 50th anniversary of the construction of the Amity replica.
