About the Event
Join local writers, readers and community members for the launch of Voices of the South: Reflections 2026, a special bicentenary edition of the annual anthology.
Created in response to Albany 2026, this collection brings together the voices of more than 60 contributors with connections to Albany-Kinjarling. Through 83 stories, poems, memoirs, essays and reflections, the anthology explores themes including history, culture, First Nations perspectives, the environment, architecture, community, and the people who have shaped the region across generations.
Contributors include Menang Elder Aunty Carol Pettersen, historian Malcolm Traill, Molly Schmidt and many other writers whose work reflects the diversity of experiences and perspectives that make Albany unique.
This special edition forms part of Albany's bicentenary year, offering a thoughtful and creative snapshot of the community in 2026 while reflecting on the past and looking towards the future.
The launch event will feature readings from contributors, music and the opportunity to purchase copies of the book. Proceeds from ticket sales and book purchases will support Albany Community Hospice.
