In 2026, Albany will host Western Australia’s first bicentenary. It marks 200 years since Aboriginal and European people first began living together on the western side of Australia, in a place known today for its stunning coastline, historic charm, and deeply rooted community spirit.
At the heart of Albany 2026 is a story far older than two centuries. This is Menang Noongar Boodja; ancient country with deep cultural roots, where stories have been passed down for countless generations and continue to be shared today. It’s a chance to reflect honestly on the past, celebrate our community today, and shape a future built on shared understanding and reconciliation.
Albany 2026 will not focus on a single day or moment in time. Instead, it will unfold as a year-long program of cultural experiences that create space for all of Albany’s stories and knowledge to be shared, while showcasing the region’s growing reputation as a creative and cultural destination. This offering is driven by community, with an emphasis on inclusion, reflection and intergenerational exchange.
With the support of Lotterywest, world-class major events will be produced in partnership with leading artists and organisations, while grassroots celebrations will shine a light on local voices. Together, the program invites audiences to walk alongside Elders, artists, storytellers and community members to reimagine what it means to live, create and belong here.
For locals, Albany 2026 is a once-in-a-generation moment. For visitors, it is the perfect reason to finally make that long-promised trip. Whether it is the wild beauty of the coast, the warmth of the welcome, or the unique blend of heritage and creativity that draws you in, Albany is inviting everyone to be part of something special.
Because 2026 is a big year for Albany. And a big year deserves a big effort.
We can’t wait to see you soon!
