Planning is underway for Sculpture at Binalup, a large-scale outdoor sculpture exhibition set to transform Binalup / Middleton Beach in April as part of the Albany 2026 program.
City of Albany staff recently met with the event team on site to discuss logistics and the installation of artworks across the beach and surrounding foreshore.
The exhibition will feature 16 artworks, including pieces from award-winning sculptors, installed across the Ellen Cove promenade and beachscape. Together, the installations will form a trail that encourages visitors to explore, pause and reflect.
Sculpture at Binalup celebrates contemporary artistic practice in connection with the cultural and ecological significance of Binalup / Middleton Beach, inviting artists to respond to the themes of Past, Present and Future through sculpture and installation.
As part of the Albany 2026 Bicentenary program, the exhibition also creates space for dialogue and storytelling about the history, culture and aspirations of this place.
The exhibition is delivered by an experienced team of arts facilitators and event producers working alongside Menang leaders and cultural practitioners, with a shared commitment to honouring the rich history and spirit of this place and its people.
The exhibition is led by artist Mae Elliott, who said collaboration and connection were central to the project.
“Sculpture at Binalup is about meaningful encounters with art, culture and place, shaped through collaboration with artists, Menang community and young people,” Ms Elliott said.
Albany 2026 Coordinator Adam Gregory said it was encouraging to see planning underway on site.
“It’s exciting to be working closely with the event team at this early stage to help deliver an experience that will be meaningful for the community and memorable for visitors,” Mr Gregory said.
Sculpture at Binalup will run from April 10 to 19, 2026 at Binalup / Middleton Beach. More details about participating artists and the program will be shared closer to the event.
