CINEFESTOZ ALBANY RETURNS WITH FREE FILM SCREENINGS AT MIDDLETON BEACH

CinefestOZ Albany is bringing the magic of Australian cinema to Binalup / Middleton Beach in late November to December, with three free community screenings celebrating the region’s rich screen history and the talented creatives who have helped bring Albany to life on screen.

The special program will feature much-loved Australian films H is for Happiness, Breath and Almost With You, alongside a selection of short films made in Albany, giving audiences the chance to revisit familiar landscapes, celebrate local stories and experience the big-screen magic of filmmaking in their own backyard.

From Albany’s spectacular coastline to its thriving creative community, the Great Southern has long captured the imagination of filmmakers. Productions made in the region have showcased its extraordinary locations to audiences around Australia, while creating opportunities for local cast, crew and businesses to be part of the screen industry.

CinefestOZ CEO Cassandra Jordan said the screenings were an opportunity to celebrate the region’s contribution to Australian screen storytelling and bring the community together through film.

“Albany has an incredible connection to Australian filmmaking, and there is something special about watching a film made in your own backyard, surrounded by the community and landscapes that helped bring it to life.

“These free screenings are about celebrating the stories made here, recognising the local talent behind them and making sure our regional communities continue to have opportunities to experience Australian cinema together.”

Albany 2026 Coordinator Adam Gregory said the screenings reflected the program’s focus on exploring Albany’s stories, identity and creative community.

“Albany 2026 is a chance to reflect on Albany today and the stories that have helped shape us. Film offers a powerful way to see our place through a different lens, and we’re proud to include CinefestOZ Albany in the program. These screenings recognise the local talent and locations that have contributed to Australian screen stories, while giving our community the chance to enjoy them together.”

With free entry, the screenings offer a relaxed opportunity for locals and visitors to enjoy a selection of Australian favourites and discover the short films showcasing Albany’s own creative talent.

Tickets are free, but registration is essential. Audiences are encouraged to register early to secure their place.

These events are supported by the City of Albany through the Albany 2026 program. CinefestOZ also acknowledges the State Government’s strong support through its investment in the infrastructure for CinefestOZ On the Road.
